Yup! You read it right. Gasoline Dion just recorded three songs with Doug of Overthrow Records/Radiobomb fame, and we're ready to release our very first demo: [u]Pump 17 is On[/u].

What we need from you is cover art. Anything goes. Enter as many times as you like. Have a high quality image that's ready to print, and make a smaller copy (less than 600 x 600 pixels) for sharing. Upload the shared image to the Gasoline Dion Photo Gallery at PittsburhgBeat.com. Then post the image in the OFFICIAL thread at PittsburghBeat.com.

Don't know how to post an image? It's easy. Click on the photo once you get it into the album. Copy its url, and place it between img tags like so:

This week sure was a blast. There may have been technical difficulties at times, but a good time was had by all. The rock was flowing and the good times were being had by all!! Thanks to everybody that actually showed up and watched us!! You guys rock!!!

I've been run down, & feeling sick since yesterday. Hope it clears up before the weekend. Rippa's wedding is Saturday, & Gasoline Dion has a busy end of October / beginning of November. I dunno how we got all these awesome shows. Hopefully the trend will continute & we can do our own bookings soon.

Looks like everything is coming together for a practice on Sunday, hopefully we can record then too. I'm excited to get shot down so people can hear it.

I just wanted to commend K-Rock on their efforts for trying to support the local music scene. This is a very admirable thing, and we need more organizations that try to help great musicians make it. At the same time I wanted to express my concerns about the production company that you had representing you (Manistee Productions). I attended the show, last Thursday, as a spectator, and friend of a few of the bands who were playing. These bands were told that since they received their tickets less than a week away from their show, that tickets sales were not going to matter. Instead, what happened was, when the bands arrived, they were given much grief over not selling tickets, some not even getting to play because of it. The entire thing was extremely disorganized, with nobody knowing what was going on, including set times, dates, etc. The following is a post on manistee's message board, in response to complaints from the bands about how disorganized the show was:

Since this was posted my the owner of what is supposed to be a "production company", I think it just shows complete unprofessionalism, and I was quite shocked when I read it. I guess, all I'm really trying to say is, that I really respect the music your station plays, and the local music programs you are trying to setup, and I would hate to see your image and reputation get a bad name, from the start, because of a fly-by-night production company that you got mixed up with. I just hope you will consider these things when choosing these kinds of companies in the future. Thanks you very much for your time, and again, nobody, that I know, blames any of this on your station, because you didn't know, but we hope it will help in your future decisions.

Yeah Mergedown got fucked out of playing because they didn't sell any tickets. We only sold 2. No love for the Dion. We didn't go on to the next round, of course, and neither did Who's Keepign Score. Incedentally Who's Keeping Score did not sell any tickets, but was allowed to play, unlike Mergedown. There were a lot of talented bands there, but it was radio rock, kidn've generic & bland if you ask me... but then again, we're just rough and rumbling punk n' roll... which I guess would sound like noise to a lot of people. The whole thing was a cluster fuck, w/ bands not showing up, no one kneoing the band order, ... hell the radio guy didn't even show up & start announcing things until well after we played. Was the one of the "industry judges"? Ha ha ha. WKS? was up and jumping for us, & we were going nuts for them. No one else (except the last pretty boy band) had that many people up in fornt of the stage... and none of us sold tickets... so... wouldn't that be a good thing? Getting people that don't know you to dig your set would seem to be a great way to advance. I was kind've disappointed that no one bought tickets from us, but... they would've been ripped off anyway. At any rate, we had a good time... but we won't be dealing with Manistee again. Hopefully K-rock won't be either. From the e-mail below, you can see they have good intentions. I hope we at least sounded good.

Okay, so, I tried to get information from K-Rock & Rolling Rock about the battle, both of them indicated to me that it was something they're kind've just showing up for, and that Manistee Productions was organizing and running everything. The guy at K-Rock even noted that they were having a hard time getting any information. What's up with that? Why is there nothing listend on the Manistee website about this show, or the K-Rock & Rolling Rock sites, or even the Boardwalk site??? Why is it when people call Frank at Manistee, that he tells everyone they're playing at 9:00pm? Why is it that a jason@manisteepro.com replied to one of my e-mails tellign me to call Frank, & that he had nothing to do with the show? Why did we get tickets so late? Why is this not being advertised anywhere, except for on the airwaves at 93.7 FM, when the damn station doesn't have any details? Oh well, I'm anxious to see how this all goes down tonight to say the least.

Has anyone been listening to K-Rock? When the DJ in the commercial for the show Thursday says "Gasoline Dion" it sounds pretty bad-ass. Ha ha ha.

Hey Ryan,

Thank you for taking the time out to drop me a line & let me know you're as confused as I am on this info, & actually caring about local bands. I'm actually in two local bands, AiXeLsyD and Gasoline Dion. Gasoline Dion will be playing on the 23rd, but we're clueless as to what time we should arrive, where we should go, and all that kind of stuff. The boardwalk is, after all, a pretty large place. It'd also be nice to know who we're playing with... 'cause if we know the bands, & our friends & fans know the other bands... they'll be more inclined to come out for a few they like vs. just one.

As far as local music goes for a weekend feature, that'd be great. I think on some "other" stations in town, it seems to be on who you know and what circle you're in, ha ha ha. They have a great thing going on WBXQ/WBRX in Altoona on Sunday nights with Jim Price. AiXeLsyD has actually gone up there & played in the studio, he interviews the band between playing all kinds of local tracks, people cal in for free bad merch and a great time is had by all.

In my mind, the easiest way to reach the bands would be to have something like a message board and/or events calendar... where people can get the info at their own convenience and spread the word easily through e-mail or reciprocal links. Advertising in the City Paper, over the airwaves, and on other local websites (like pittpunk.com, pittsburghrock.com, pittsburghbeat.com) would be great, ... and enlisting local bands to call on their other friends in local bands would be an excellent way to get the word out. Then you could have the rules for submitting material or whatever all posted easily for people to read & follow. I can mot certianly help promote & spread the word too. It's cool to help local bands get some recognition.

Thanks again for taking the interest in the local rockers! I'll keep watching for info on that batte of the bands...

I tried to call the BLOG, but I couldn't hear the promts from my cell phone, as we were rocking way too loud. Someone did call me and leave a voicemail though. I think it might've been TJ. I'll have to go home & record that one. Ha ha ha.

It was great to see a lot of faces that I haven't for a while, like Jack, & Mike n' Andy from Secrets Lie Within. I can't tell you how much we appreciate the support.

I was also impressed with Sing the Evens, Play the Odds. It was very cool and different. Ross has a nice full sound coming out of that guitar, I can't wait to see them with a cello.

Of course, NSD always rocks, & I love to get up n' sing "Not My Lucky Day" with 'em, & occasionally hop up on a RAMONES cover.

I can't wait until this battle of the bands thing, I'm incredibly pumped to play shows now!

Had another practice last night... went pretty good for ¾ of us jamming, ha ha ha. I think the hardest part of being in a band is getting schedules to mesh. None-the-less, we will rock you hard on Saturday. We'll be playing some new originals, along w/ some stuff you might've heard before by some other band, or in very raw form floating on the internet. I was gonna call the audio blogger from practice last night to let you hear something, but my phone doesn't give me any reception inside our padded dungeon, located somewhere deep within the bowels of hell. Not that this should surprise me. I should write a song about Sprint...

I think that jamming went very well. At this rate there will be more than enough songs for a full set in no time at all. Sometimes it's best to just let the floodgate open and see where it goes. This will be fun!!

Gasoline Dion Practice.

Alright, so I'm making my first "real" post in the blog. Gasoline Dion practice took place last night at the newly rented space in the ABC Storage building up in Allentown above the South Side, thanks to Mike.

I think we did pretty damn well having only one other practice under our belt, & with writing some new stuff & tightening up some old. Dave described us as a steamroller on the message board, & I think that hits it quite well. Just imagine the steamroller being strapped on to the front of a really fast sports car, ...with no muffler.

At any rate, I'm really looking forward to this show at Angel's on Saturday. I haven't played on a stage for a while, and I can't wait to get back into it, especially with a group of musicians this eclectic & goofy.

Yup. Those pictures were added with Hello., a crazy little free storage program, providing a space on the internet to store them. From what I can tell, it's not too invasive either. This is awesome. You guys check out the audio stuff and posting via e-mail?

The name you display can be different from your login name. I'm gonna play with the colors & see if I can make the page less abrasive.
